Black History Month Could Possibly Become a Thing of the Past
February 5, 2010
It's February 2010, and
Protecting Black Life joins in the celebration of Black
History Month in the U.S.! It is a time to intentionally
reflect upon and appreciate the multi-faceted mark Blacks have
made upon the history of America. Our nation wouldn't be the
same without their countless contributions.
However, as I consider the
devastating impact of abortion, the LEADING cause of
death in the Black community, and ponder the possibilities of
what Black History Month may look like in the future, I am
seriously concerned. Since Protecting Black Life's mission is
to educate, motivate and activate the Black community in the
U.S. on the issue of abortion, and to assist in the
implementation of peaceful and practical things we can do to
turn this problem around, the grave implications of the recent
national abortion statistics hit me particularly hard.
Lest you think I am making too
much of all this, I encourage you to consider
National Vital
Statistics Report - Vol. 58, No. 4, October 14, 2009 (for the
year 2005) and compare the numbers of live births versus the
numbers of induced (or, surgical) abortions.
PREGNANCY OUTCOMES FOR THE
YEAR 2005 IN THE U.S.:
Non-Hispanic
White: Live births - 2,303,000 Induced abortions
- 415,000 (i.e., White lives lost by abortion)
Hispanic: Live
births - 986,000 Induced abortions - 263,000 (i.e., Brown
lives lost by abortion)
Non-Hispanic
Black: Live births - 587,000 Induced
abortions - 452,000 (i.e., Black lives lost by
abortion) Notice how dangerously close
the number of Black babies born in 2005 in the U.S. is in
comparison to the number of Black babies who lost their lives
by induced abortion? It's only a difference of
135,000!
And if today's Black History
Month e-blast isn't bleak enough, let me share with you that
the total number of Black deaths from all other causes
(excl. abortion) in the U.S. in 2005 was 292,808! (www.protectingblacklife.org/abortion_stats/pdf/CDC_nvsr58_08_122309.pdf)
So, when we say abortion is the
LEADING cause of death in the African American
community, we're not making it up! With over 14 million
Black Americans ALREADY missing because of abortion,
and ALMOST as many being aborted as there are being
born, I wonder will there be enough Black Americans remaining
and constructively contributing to the landscape of our nation
to warrant celebrating Black History Month in the
future!
If you're not already doing so,
please join us in becoming an advocate for life by continuing
to learn about this critical issue and its impact upon the
Black community. Begin to regularly, unashamedly and lovingly
inform others. For a handful of ways that work visit us at the
following link: www.protectingblacklife.org/about_it/index.html
By God's grace, Protecting Black
Life has reached 233,386 people with the truth about abortion
in 2009 and has already addressed approximately 15,000 people
in January 2010 alone (not counting those reached through our
website, or who may have listened by radio or watched via
GodTV). Please help us to get this urgent message to the
masses! Your generous donation will enable us to continue
to share this urgent, life-saving, life-changing
message.
As a token of our appreciation
for your donation, we'll give a complimentary copy of the
beautiful book Justice Loves Babies to the first
eight donors. Thank you in advance for your support! For a
