YWCA FIRES AFRICAN AMERICAN PRO-LIFE EMPLOYEE

PRESS CONFERENCE
10:00 A.M. – 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 12, 2007
Hyatt Regency Hotel, Bluegrass A, 151 W. 5 th Street, Cinti., OH 45202

SUMMARY
Through one of its many education and training programs, the YWCA serves low-income young women, some of who are pregnant. Some of these young African American women are contemplating abortion decisions. In an effort to educate them with alternative, life-affirming options, Ms. Shannon Nixson, an African American Xavier University graduate student, and YWCA Case Manager, invited Protecting Black Life’s Urban Outreach Director, Arnold Culbreath to conduct a presentation to equip the women with knowledge, thus empowering them to make the most informed decision possible. Although, several of the young women have chosen life for their pre-born babies as a result of attending the presentation, and even though Ms. Nixson was given authorization to invite Mr. Culbreath to come, Ms. Nixson was fired by the YWCA on Thursday, November 1, 2007, and Mr. Culbreath was banned from conducting any pro-life presentations at the YWCA in the future. While being informed that her firing was effective immediately, Ms. Nixson was also told that the aforementioned presentation “did not fit within the mission and vision of the YWCA.”

  • Abortion is the leading cause of death among African Americans. Higher than AIDS, crime, accidents, cancer and heart disease combined!
  • Over 14 million black babies have died by abortion, since 1973. More than 425,000 pre-born black babies die each year as a result of legalized abortion. Approximately 1,200 black babies are killed by abortion everyday. 37% of all abortions are performed on black women, but they represent only 13% of the female population.
  • African American women are having abortions at nearly triple the rate of whites, and over 25% more than Hispanics. Abortion has played a significant role in blacks no longer being the largest minority group in the U.S.
  • Studies reveal that the abortion industry targets African Americans by locating 62.5% of their abortion mills within urban communities.
In his book Abortion Questions and Answers – Love Them Both, Dr. J.C. Willke, MD, writes, “The Young Women’s Christian Association was captured three decades ago by a group of radical anti-life feminists. Its policies today are aggressively pro-abortion. For example, in 1973, its 26 th National Convention voted ‘to support efforts to provide safe abortions to all women who desire them.’ In 1989, it restated its policy of support for ‘Repeal of all laws, restricting or prohibiting abortions…’ There has been no essential change since that time.”

Shouldn’t women be given all the options concerning the future of their pregnancies?
